Alec Maxwell Makes His First Foray Into YouTube With New Kloss Community Channel

Kloss Films is all about community. The film production company, which was founded by and runs under the leadership of creative Alec Maxwell, is built on bringing people together and into the Kloss Films fold. Maxwell’s skill for doing this has resulted in a wildly successful business with a loyal band of fans and followers that continues to burgeon with every new venture. Now, there’s a new swell of growth incoming, with Maxwell announcing his latest project – a YouTube channel that will centre around that community that makes Kloss so special. With series’ like My Kloss Selfie Archive and Boys In Beat already out, the new venture will give people the chance to chart and appreciate the life and times of Kloss Films.

“It’s always been my preferred place to watch things,” Maxwell tells 10 regarding why he decided to start this Youtube channel now. “So it always felt like something I would do at some point. Something that I always say to myself is the best way to get ahead is to get started. So this basically just feels like, let’s get started. Let’s iron out any kinks as we go, but let’s just get started and go from there.”

With four series’ already developed and two already published, the inspiration for what they would be was pretty clear to Maxwell from the start. “So the topics reflect what I enjoy watching on YouTube and they reflect my experience as a filmmaker. They also reflect the community. So, everything that we’ve shot, and the people from the community who have shot it, and it just feels like the right energy for us as a group of people.”

Using this community as an anchor for the new project means that through its activation, this community is set to grow, with Maxwell identifying the quality time the members get to spend with each other as the catalyst. “Anytime we spend time together is strengthening the community, especially when you put that into such a creative context,” Maxwell explains. “Some of the series that we have in production, they have 10 members of the community being shot at one time. So that’s also a great chemistry to put 10 people together and then it grew on top of that. It’s kind of really bonding experience. It also strengthens the community for the viewers who are watching, because the community has gotten pretty large, so people can watch the channel and kind of spend more time with people from the community, just through the screen.

For Maxwell personally, this is an exciting opportunity to have the creative freedom he isn’t always afforded. “The overall goal (for the channel) is to have a home where I can make anything that I want,” Maxwell says. “As a filmmaker, for many years, I’ve been working for brands and publications and now it just feels great to have a home where I can make whatever I want to make.”

Luckily, this freedom seems to be paying off. “My favourite thing about developing the channel has been the positive reaction that we’ve had from everybody that has been invited to come and shoot. I think it’s been very positive (that) have given their time and their positive energy, and that is one of my favourite parts so far is the support,” he says. “And secondly, it’s really exciting to be able to to go into this archive of all these things that exist across all the resources, you know, from the motion graphics and the sound effects and the crew, and everything that I’ve built over the years. Now to turn all of that towards shooting something that’s just for us, is, probably my favourite part.”
