And The Theme For The 2025 Met Gala Is…’Superfine: Tailoring Black Style’

Wake up honey! The day has come. The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute has announced the theme for the 2025 Met Gala and it’s… drumroll pleaseSuperfine: Tailoring Black Style.

Always aligned with a major exhibition, the accompanying display takes inspiration from Monica L. Miller’s 2009 book, Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity to explore Black dandyism and “the importance of sartorial style to the formation of Black identities in the Atlantic diaspora.” Within, guests are invited to discover the story of the Black dandy across time, starting in 18th-century Europe and moving through to modern day. Envisioned through a range of media, including garments and accessories, drawings, prints, paintings, photographs, film excerpts and more, a history and description of the discrete style phenomena will come to life, whilst reflecting broader issues of race and power within the Black diaspora.

Open to the public from May 10 to October 26, 2025, the exhibition will follow the official Met Gala scheduled for – as always – the first Monday in May (May 5 this time).

What’s more, set to co-chair the Met Ball are heavyweight names from the worlds of music, fashion, sport and acting including Louis Vuitton artistic director, musician and producer Pharrell, rapper Asap Rocky, five-time F1 world champion Lewis Hamilton and actor and playwright Colman Domingo.
