Future Observatory: Tomorrow’s Wardrobe is the newest display offered at The Design Museum, focusing on the ever-growing innovations in sustainable fashion. Coinciding with London Fashion Week, the display, which is free, will open mid-September.
Sustainability meets style in this informative display, opening our eyes to the industry’s innovators. Thanks to their fresh takes on sustainable fashion, the exhibit includes names like Stella McCartney and Phoebe English as well as other leaders in the arena. Menswear maverick and upcycling fan favourite Ahluwalia will be on show, skilfully acquired by the display’s curator George Kafka. Created using discarded, donated sports shirts, the eye-catching polo is guaranteed to turn heads.
New methods of creation and deeper research into innovation of how to rethink the way the world of fashion functions is crucial to ensure a greener future; it’s why Tomorrow’s Wardrobe is so vital. The Design Museum delves deeper, showcasing the work of Ponda – the textile disrupter that Stella McCartney has previously collaborated with. New regenerative fibres created from wetlands plants have been utilised by the brand to make puffer jackets.
A future built from high-tech and low-tech tools will also be on show on the second-floor of The Design Museum. Robotic arms, digitals IDs, upcycling, recycling and AI are just a handful of methods attendees can investigate, learning how designers can utilise them to rethink methods of creation. A must-see display for any fashion or sustainability lover.
Future Observatory: Tomorrow’s Wardrobe is open from September 14 until August 30 2025 at The Design Museum 224-238 Kensington High Street, W8 6AG.
